At 14,411 feet, Mount Rainier is the tallest volcano in the 48 contiguous states and the highest mountain in Washington. On clear days, it dominates the horizon for hundreds of miles. Mount Rainier is crowned by the largest, single-peak glacier system outside of Alaska. Bicycles are allowed on the roads and cyclists will find both challenging and scenic cycling opportunities. While mountain biking is not allowed on area trails, many good road options are available for mountain bikers, including: Westside Road (just inside the Nisqually Entrance,) the Carbon River Road, the Mowich Lake Road, and the road behind the old campground in Longmire. Click below to get details and directions on the "Biking in Rainier National Park" page. Check road conditions before heading out.

With 2300 acres and 3100 feet of vertical, Crystal Mountain is Washington’s largest ski area. Beautiful bowls. With long runs, incredible views of Mt. Rainier, a brand new half-pipe, and a high-speed lift system to get you all over the hill. If you’re a beginner, there’s wonderful terrain and a friendly ski and snowboard school to help you out. Intermediates -- head for the Forest Queen Express and Green Valley. You simply won’t find better intermediate terrain anywhere! Better yet, Crystal Mountain has great accommodations so you can come up and spend a few nights. Accommodations range from private condos to cozy hotel rooms to chalet suites to a honeymoon cabin -- with price ranges that will fit whatever budget you choose.
